Skilled work in intermediate advanced emergency care in a pre-hospital setting. An employee in this capacity serves as one of the members of a two- man team representing not only themselves but Pennsylvania Ambulance at
all times. The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is the instructed member of the team that is responsible for intermediate advanced emergency care. In many cases, an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician must administer life-sustaining treatment in the form of intravenous fluids, cardiac 12-lead ECG acquisition, and intermediate medication administration, rescue airway insertion, and/or any related treatment not exceeding the scope of their training. Work and skills are performed under the supervision of a shift supervisor.
A Pennsylvania Ambulance Advanced Emergency Medical Technician must communicate rationally and effectively with patients, patient family members, physicians, hospital personnel, the communication center (911) and their peers.
A Pennsylvania Ambulance Advanced Emergency Medical Technician must respect others without excluding themselves. Honesty, reliability, integrity, and the ongoing will to achieve excellence is an important role in their daily duties.
Respond to non-emergent and emergent calls as an Advanced EMT; performing necessary intermediate advanced emergency medical care within the scope of their training.
Administer and maintain oxygen therapy and airway procedures on patients whose condition warrants.
Performs emergency intermediate advanced life support care procedures as needed, always following the direction of medical direction and any additional Pennsylvania Ambulance policies and procedures.
Participates in continuous training programs to ensure the total annual credits required by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Regional counsel are met and to improve the employee’s self-confidence in skills that coincide with the ever-changing prehospital setting.
Adequately learn and complete all Pennsylvania Ambulance paperwork, documentation and computer software charting.
Familiarize themselves with the different boroughs, streets, and stand- by locations in reference to the Pennsylvania Ambulance coverage areas and the Pennsylvania Ambulance Computer Aided Dispatching system.
Participates in all work environment maintenance. Duties such as station upkeep, garbage removal and vehicle cleanliness are mandatory.The Pennsylvania Ambulance managerial team prides themselves on appearance and expects each employee to have this same pride.
Performs any and all related duties as required.

Pennsylvania Ambulance Emergency Medical Technician duties can require a high level of physical ability to include vision, hearing, speaking, flexibility, and strength. Work may include sitting, walking, running, bending, and lifting in excess of one hundred and fifty pounds. Work may include both indoor and outdoor activity where the employee is exposed to elements of nature, hazardous chemicals, smoke, or potentially hazardous situations. A Pennsylvania Ambulance Advanced Emergency Medical Technician must always remember the safety of themselves and that of their partner always comes first.

- They then must have at the minimum, the following education and certifications:
- A High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
- A Valid Pennsylvania Drivers License
- Current Pennsylvania Advanced Emergency Medical
- Technician certification
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association
- Current Hazardous Materials Recognition (R&I) certification
(OSHA Requirement) - Emergency Vehicle Operator’s Course
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course
A Pennsylvania Ambulance Advanced Emergency Medical Technician will have a successful background in the Emergency Medical Services field. Additional private or volunteer experience with an Advanced Life or Basic Life Support unit is preferable. A proactive attitude about being the best is a must. A Pennsylvania Ambulance Advanced Emergency Medical Technician must be capable of assessing not only their patients, but all the needs and wants of Pennsylvania Ambulance’s customers.
